My friend Jake decided to go backpacking through Europe. For the last two years of college, Jake had been saving to go on a trek through Europe. As the day came closer to flying out of the country and into a completely different continent, Jake began to plan out his trip. Fortunately, he took out travel insurance. Travel insurance is intended to cover financial and medical expenses and other losses during travel. Jake loves to live on the edge; however, his parents convinced him that it would be a smart idea to take out travel insurance.

Travel insurance was a smart decision. Jake ended up breaking his ankle during a drunken evening clubbing in London. It's scary enough to be in a hospital in a completely different country, imagine how scary it would be paying medical expenses in a country where the rules may be different. Fortunately, the travel insurance took care of everything.

If I ever travel to another country, I will most certainly take out travel insurance. This is a lesson learned for any aspiring world traveler.
