I've only had one experience with travel insurance, and it was 100% satisfactory. I had to cancel a trip for health reasons, and the company from whom I got my travel insurance had a check to me in less than 30 days for the whole cost of the trip. The cheap travel insurance was so worth the money. Unless I am booking a flight for the near future, I'm going to be using it all the time for any kind of travel, whether it's a cruise, an airline flight, or a train ticket.
Nothing is 100% certain in life and cheap travel insurance is money well spent. For less than $20, I got my $400 ticket fully refunded. I could have used the credit the airlines would have given me, but they charge well over $50 to change each segment of the trip, so instead of trusting fate, I'm trusting travel insurance in the future. Saving money on travel is everyone's goal, especially mine, so when the unexpected turns up, and I have to cancel, I'll have a soft landing.
