Travel insurance is useful and can be very important.  By design, travel insurance exists to protect you from losing money invested in your vacation in case of an unforeseen emergency. travel insurance is useful in many situations including the following: You or a travel companion are admitted to the hospital before a trip, you or your travel companion get into a car accident prior to the trip, or a natural disaster occurs GOD FORBID!

However, travel insurance will most likely NOT cover pre-existing condition flare-ups that cause you or your travel companion from being able to take the trip (unless of course there was a special exclusion).

Also, bankruptcy coverage may be minimal or even non-existent should a viral infection hit the area you are traveling to or you change your mind. Be wary of travel insurance policies that promise terrorism or car coverage insurance. Most travel insurance policies don't and those that do are limited!

You really need to know exactly what is covered and what is excluded in the travel insurance policy. Very important to read the fine print!

As a general rule, travel insurance should cover the following:

-delay and trip cancellation
-delay and loss of baggage
-sickness and accidents
-for travel abroad - emergency evacuation

Be sure to use a reputable travel insurance company and do your research! It could save a lot of money for you. Dot your I's and cross your T's.
